Logistics/Transportation Committee Co-Chairs---John Cruz and Patricia Andrade

Outreach Committee Chair---Barbara Burgo

A)     Hotel Accommodations- We discussed the need to have rooms in a nearby, reasonable rate hotel for the delegation and some rooms for those who may want to make it a weekend “holiday”. There is a fairly new Hampton Inn, not far from the RCC that would be sufficient.

Action:  John Cruz will call to reserve some rooms starting on Tuesday and a few more to cover the weekend.

 

B)     Transportation Issues- There are various types of transportation that will be required for the event.

1)      Local transport from parking areas to the RCC- Will talk with the Mayor of Boston to see if they can designate MBTA shuttle bus

Action: Tricia will contact Karine Querido, Cape Verdean liaison

2)      Local transport will evaluate cost for limousine vs. school bus service for the transport needs of the Cape Verde delegation

3)      Distant transport from point locations in New England. Discussed four point bus routes.

    a. Providence/Pawtucket line to Boston

    b.New Bedford line to Boston

 c. Brockton line to Boston

 d.Cape Cod beyond the bridge/Wareham line to Boston

Action: John Cruz will contact Bus company to evaluate.

 

C) Outreach- Contacts need to be made to all Cape Verdean organizations throughout the area for general information distribution about the event and also to inform of the bus availability. Need to determine cost for the bus trips. Number of people committed to taking the bus.

                   Action: Barbara Burgo has contacted CV organizations and will have them collect info needed once we finalize transport issues.

 

D)    Social- Brief discussion about the potential for an after Expo social event for the planning committee, booth attendees, etc. Discussed location issues, who’ll sponsor, timing. More thought and discussion needs to occur on this matter.

Brief discussion about activities for the delegation before the expo. They arrive on Tuesday and it would be interesting to make it a Cape Verde American week experience, possible event in New Bedford and Providence area during the week and closing with the Brockton Festival.

Action: Tricia will contact folks in New Bedford and Providence area.

 

E)  Other- Any thing else you can think of that might need to be addressed before the event???? Please circulate thoughts and action plans. Will do a walk through visit of the RCC Thursday, May 22.  No next meeting date was set. Will do group emails to circulate information.
