SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 (DAY 1) / PORTO - HOTEL DON HENRIQUE OR IPANEMA

___         Arrive Porto - Second largest city In Portugal, situated on the Douro River. Home of the Port wine trade. Famous wine lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia, picturesque riverside area, impressive bridges.

Host will meet group at airport and assist transfer to the hotel.

 4:00 pm:      Late afternoon guided tour of Porto's historical sites.

  7:00pm:     Dinner at a wine cellar In Vila Nova da Gala.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 (DAY 2) / PORTO

                        Depart to Barcelos, situated on the banks of the Rio Cávado. Barcelos  known for its weekly market, handcrafts and ceramics, has given Portugal Its national symbol -- the cockerel. Attend mass in Barcelos.

Braga - Capital of the Minho and one of the earliest Christian towns. Visit the cathedral and the pilgrimage center of Bom Jesus do Monte, with its monumental Baroque staircase.

Guimarães  -  Beautiful  medieval town,  first capital  of  Portugal.  Birthplace of Afonso Henriques, first king of Portugal, who took Lisbon back from the Moors in 1147. Tour the old city and historical sites.

          * Dinner at Quinta de Castelães

Return to Porto

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 (DAY 3) / COIMBRA - hotel TlVOLI, coimbra

___         Attend presentation on breast cancer at Porto's Institute of Oncology (Dr. Victor Veloso, Director).
